Cuando las condiciones climáticas lo permitían, a veces era posible vislumbrar la costa Africana desde Pantelleria, hecho que me llevó a producir este díptico que nos presenta una visión borrosa y otra enfocada del mismo objeto. Este motivo se utiliza de manera simbólica, haciendo referencia tanto al avistamiento de tierra tras estar en alta mar como a las barcas improvisadas con las que la gente atraviesa el océano para llegar al continente Europeo. El hecho de presentar dos visiones, hace referencia a como se observa al Continente Africano, para ciertos asuntos es algo borroso, como si no se quisiera observar, y para otros, la mirada es clara y directa.

When weather conditions allowed, it was at times possible to glimpse the African coast from Pantelleria, an experience that led me to produce this diptych, which presents one blurred and one focused view of the same subject. This motif is used symbolically, referring both to the sighting of land after being at sea and to the improvised boats with which people cross the ocean to reach the European continent. The presentation of two distinct visions alludes to the ways in which the African continent is perceived: in certain contexts it appears blurred, as if one were unwilling to look, while in others the gaze is clear and direct.
